Do Babies Need Lotion

Babies have really great skin but they are extremely delicate. They are prone to allergies and irritation, particularly when exposed to harsh substances. With that, you might be wondering what you can do to protect their precious skin. Do babies need lotion?

Lotions can help moisturize babies’ skin, especially if you used baby soap in bathing them. However, you must remember to use them sparingly on newborns.

Also, find lotions that are safe to use on babies’ delicate skin. Avoid the scented ones as fragrances can cause skin irritation. You should also be more careful when reading labels. Find out if there are any harsh chemicals hidden in your baby’s lotions before actually applying it.

Some of the ingredients you need to avoid in baby products are:

  • Talc
  • Propylene Glycol
  • Mineral oil
  • Parabens
  • Triclosan

Take note that lotions are different from diaper creams. They shouldn’t be used for soothing your baby’s irritated skin from wearing his diapers. You can, however, use a gentle lotion when giving your baby a massage, such as when he’s having a really gassy stomach.
