A putty knife is a tool you’ll find reliable when you need to apply putty to holes and surfaces. If you have no clue on how to do that, here’s a quick guide on how to apply putty with a putty knife.

Apply the putty to your knife

Make sure that you spread the putty on your blade evenly. Only take an ample amount and avoid putting too much of it on your blade.

Apply the putty to your desired surface

With the putty on your knife, spread it evenly on the surface until you get a smooth and even finish. If there are any uneven areas, you can use the blade of your knife to smooth them out.

Don’t apply too much putty at once. It’s better to start with a small amount and just add more coats as necessary. Take your time in applying the product to get a really even result. Wait for the putty to completely settle and dry before you do anything to it. Believe it or not, it can take 8 to 12 weeks before it can be decorated. If you really want to speed up the process, you can use a drying compound. It’s available in most hardware stores.
