  • Rectangle Scarf

This is also known as the oblong scarf or long scarf. It is the most common type of scarf available in stores. It has a very basic shape and is just one piece of fabric in a rectangle or oval form. Some may have fringes at the end. It can be anywhere from 40 inches to 80 inches long. You can transform this scarf to practically anything when you try different ways to wear a scarf.

  • Square Scarf

There is also the square scarf or also known as the “neckerchief”. It almost looks like a handkerchief but is slightly bigger. It adds a nice touch to any outfit.

  • Infinity Scarf

Another fashionable type of scarf is the infinity scarf. It is also called the infinity loop or circle scarf. It has a contemporary shape and is very easy to wear. As the name suggests, this scarf is designed with a closed loop and has no loose ends.

  • Pashmina

The pashmina wrap or scarf is often a cashmere wool and looks very elegant. It is usually a wide rectangular shape with long and twisted tassels on both ends. It can make you look very sophisticated and can be worn as a shawl or a wrap, as stylish ways to wear a scarf.

How to Wear Scarf?

Whatever type of scarf you own from the list above, there are several ways to wear a scarf to make you feel warm and look stylish.

  • Drapes

The very basic way to wear a scarf is to drape it around your neck. Simply let the scarf fall on either side of your neck evenly. Another way to do this is to tie a belt around your waist while the scarf hangs on your neck.

You can also just toss one end of the scarf over your other shoulder. Or toss both ends, crisscrossing on the center so that it’s on reverse-drape. This will give you a lot of warmth on your back and your neck is protected when you wear a scarf this way.

  • Ties

Another way to wear a scarf is to tie it. The most basic way is to drape the scarf around your neck and then cross and tie the two ends in the center. The final look should be one end of the scarf is layered over the other. Fluff it to add volume.

  • Knots

Next, you can tie your scarf in different types of knots. There are many ways to do this and you can have a lot of fun experimenting.

To do a French knot, simply fold the scarf in half before you put it around your shoulders. Then take one loose end and pull that under the scarf loop. Take the other end and pull it under and over the same loop.

To make the knotted necklace, wrap your scarf behind your neck and wrap one end of it around your hand. Pull it loosely and take the other end, and pull it through the side knot. Go under the knot loop and then over it.

  • Loops

To do a basic loop, simply drape the scarf unevenly around your neck. Make sure that the shorter end is just on your chest area. Loop the longer end around your neck two times and let it hang.

For a basic knotted loop, do the same but loosely tie the two ends off to one side, depending on where you feel like having a knot.

You can also tuck in a basic loop by doing the same basic loop and then by crossing the two ends. Simply tuck them under the loop.

  • Neckerchief

Fold your scarf in half twice to make it a rectangle. Then fold it diagonally to make a triangular shape. You can let the two triangular ends a bit apart so it doesn’t look like a table napkin. Take the two ends on the sides of the triangle then tie them around your neck.

  • Infinity

Even if you don’t own an infinity scarf, you can do this by knotting the two opposite corners of your scarf together. This will create a circle. Swing the circular scarf over your head with the knot on your back. Do it twice.

  • Head Scarf

You can also wear a scarf so that it covers your head. Spread out the scarf and drape it over your head then toss one end over one of your shoulders. Gently throw the other end across your other shoulder.

  • Wrap

Lastly, you can wear the scarf like a shawl by spreading it out and wrapping it evenly around both of your shoulders. Leave one end of the scarf across your body and throw the other end to your opposite shoulder.

These are just some of the different ways you can wear a scarf. You can experiment and incorporate other styles to fit your look. You can even use two scarves to create a longer one and come up with other new looks.
